AD5227 is a 64-step up/down control digital potentiometer. This device performs the same electronic adjustment function as a 5V potentiometer or variable resistor. This presets to midscale at power-up. When CS is enabled, the devices changes step at every clock pulse. The interface is simple to activate by any host controller, discrete logic, or manually with a rotary encoder or pushbuttons. Its 64-step resolution, small footprint, and simple interface enable it to replace mechanical potentiometers and trimmers with typically 6× improved resolution, solid-state reliability, and design layout flexibility, resulting in a considerable cost savings in end users’ systems. Typical applications are mechanical potentiometer and trimmer replacements, LCD backlight, contrast, and brightness controls, portable electronics level adjustment, programmable power supply, digital trimmer replacements, automatic closed-loop control.
- Simple 3-wire up/down interface allows manual switching or high speed digital control
- Midscale preset, chip select enable multiple device operation
- Resistor differential nonlinearity range from −0.5 to 0.5LSB (RWB, VDD=3 V ± 10% or 5 V ± 10%)
- Power supply range from 2.7 to 5.5V (VDD=3V ± 10% or 5V ± 10%, -40°C <lt/> TA <lt/> +105°C)
- Supply current is 3μA max (VIH=5V or VIL=0V, VDD=3V ± 10% or 5V ± 10%, -40°C <lt/> TA <lt/> +105°C)
- Bandwidth (-3dB) is 460KHz typ (RAB=10Kohm, midscale, VDD=3 V ± 10%/5V ± 10%, -40 <lt/> TA <lt/> +105°C)
- Resistor noise voltage is 14nV/√Hz typ (RWB=5Kohm, f=1KHz, VDD=3V±10% or 5V±10%, -40 <lt/> TA <lt/> +105°C)
- 8-lead TSOT package
- Temperature rating range from -40°C to +105°C
